August 2025 Rising Stars LIVE: 2nd Thursdays – Business Building with Roselee

ree

The August Rising Stars LIVE: 2nd Thursdays – Business Building with Roselee session delivered powerful, real-world business guidance for emerging beauty professionals. These evening events, held every second Thursday at 7pm, focus on the building blocks of launching and running a successful business. They are led by Rising Stars Co-Chair, Roselee Mathu, a micro lock specialist, salon owner, creator of the Signature Loc Method, and author of Calm Conversations.

The purpose of these sessions is to make sure beauty businesses have a strong foundation and continued support. With those fundamentals in place, professionals can confidently take the next step—whether it be hiring executives, getting investors, or scaling your business.

This month’s Thursday session with Roselee zoomed in on one of the most challenging but crucial aspects of running a beauty business — pricing, client alignment, and professional boundaries.

1. The Three Cs Framework

Roselee shared her Three Cs for building a sustainable and thriving business:

  • Congruence – Align your business model with the life you want to live. Set business hours, pricing, and policies that match your goals, values, and lifestyle.

  • Capacity – Understand your physical, emotional, and operational limits. Structure your services and schedule around what you can consistently deliver without burnout.

  • Compassion – Maintain empathy for both yourself and your clients, even when enforcing policies or making tough business decisions.

2. The Power of the Consultation

A thorough consultation is essential before working with any client. Roselee emphasized:

  • Discussing service details, maintenance expectations, and pricing up front.

  • Evaluating the client’s hair, lifestyle, and emotional connection to their style.

  • Identifying potential misalignments before committing to an appointment.

3. Pricing with Purpose

Roselee encouraged stylists to price services based on financial goals, skill level, and desired schedule—not just competitor rates.Key points included:

  • Move away from inconsistent hourly or “per lock” pricing in favor of clear service packages.

  • Use data from your own client timing and results to set prices that meet your income goals.

  • Review and adjust pricing at least once a year to reflect growth, demand, and increased expertise.

4. Boundaries Build Trust

Unclear or shifting prices can damage client trust. Roselee advised:

  • Never change pricing mid-service.

  • Enforce policies consistently from the first infraction.

  • Keep conversations calm, professional, and rooted in agreements made during the consultation.

5. Creating a Premium Service Tier

One of Roselee’s biggest breakthroughs came when a client asked to pay more for one-on-one service without a student present. This inspired her to:

  • Offer a premium pricing tier for clients seeking a more exclusive experience.

  • Restructure her schedule to focus on fewer clients while increasing revenue.

  • Prove that working less while earning more is possible when your pricing and business model are aligned.

The August session was a masterclass in building a solid business foundation—the kind that supports growth, attracts ideal clients, and sustains long-term success.
